Mold release for soft cast urethane parts

08/09/2007 7:10 PM

We make some really soft (15 shore 00) urethane elastomer parts. Most of what we have done in the past has been filling bladders. We now have a need for some cast parts. The molds we will be using are aluminum. Does anyone out there have any experience with release agents that are effective for something like this?

I have also been thinking of having the molds teflon coated. Can anyone tell me if this would be worth the expense. I know there are companies out there that will do this but I have had no luck in finding one in the Midwest. Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks

I use some excellent spray mold release for PUs, sold in spray cans or volume. Unfortunately, I am away from the office until August 20th. If you still need the info by then, let me know and I'll send you details and source info.

Frekote® Aqualine® PUR-100 made by Henkel. I think this will work. I can get you samples to try and also talk to you to narrow down the selection of your mold release. Respond to this discussion and I will contact you.

Eccoslip 122S from Emerson&Cuming worked ok for us with our anodised aluminium moulds, but you'd best talk with manufacturer and/or distributor before testing it with your soft urethane.
