failure of ac equipments

08/11/2007 5:14 AM

Hai every body

I am an electrical engineer .I wm working on 66/11 kv substation 66 kv side is GIS and 11 KV was VCB breaker .Transformer 25MVA 11 kv side with earthing transformer 11kv/415v we are getting auxilary supply from earthing transformer. My problem was when 11kv out going feeder trips on e/f relay my auxiliary supply equipments getting some high voltage /current damaging my equipments like electronic cards , ac contactors & annunciators .I checked transformer neutral earthing also rigidly connected to ground and Iam getting P-N 230v and P-P 440 volts .

is there any reason for the above please help me regarding this .If you need any more details contact me thru CR4 or my mail ikarthik77@rediffmail.com

expecting suggestions from our members

bye

HAVE YOU GOT A CIRCUIT DIAGRAM? OR CAN YOU DO A QUICK DRAWING IN PAINT JUST SO WE CAN SEE WHERE ALL THE CONECTIONS ARE? SOUNDS LIKE SURGE TRIPPING CURRENT IS GETTING TO THE CARDS BEFORE TRIPPING THE TRIP! COULD YOU NOT CONNECT YOUR AUX STUFF TO THE LV SIDE OF THE TRANSFORMER? I'M WONDERING WHAT 11KV WOULD DO TO A 230V CARD, INTERESTING! DID YOU TEST THE EARTH? THERE IS A 3 PRONGED METER, ONE TO THE EARTH TERMINAL IN THE TRANSFORMER INSTALLATION, ONE 5M AWAY ON A PIKE IN THE GROUND AND ONE ABOUT 20M FROM THE FIRST! YOU NEED TO CHECK THAT YOUR GROUND IS WORKING! ITS NOT JUST THE CONNECTION TO THE TERMINAL THAT HAS TO BE GOOD, BUT THE EARTH ITSELF!

It may be due to EMI problem,

we can solve it very easily using EMI filter, But its very costly and design a good EMI filter is an art.

Second way is we can isolate our electronic system from electrical system completely by using Battery power (it is a best method), other-wise use 230V UPS with different lines, or use A Small Generator - Kerosine driven is best for it for Electronic systems.

If you sure that its not because of EMI problem, Then we need circuit diagram for annalysis.

UPS is OK-rather most desireable

At UPS Input you need to fit

  • Overvoltage Protection MODULE
  • +fast acting tripping MCCB
  • + Warning relay operated by the bypassing current from this Overvoltage Protection MODULE .
