LEDs replacing lightbulbs

04/15/2005 10:34 AM

As LED technology advances its becoming more likely that the humble light bulb may face extinction within the next decade. Increasing LED power, brightness, and lifespan coupled with lower costs will hasten this changeover. Neon lights may face a similar fate.

Traffic lights..

04/19/2005 7:55 AM

I notice most traffic lights are converting over to LEDs. I prefer them as they are easier to see and it seems that they need maintenance less often.
As for replacing home lighting, I tend to find LED light to be a bight harsh on the eyes, someone would need to find a way to make them as easy on they eyes as my soft light Revel light bulbs I use at home.

Neon Disposal

04/19/2005 9:34 AM

The articles states that neon signs are "vulnerable to vandalism". How do you safely dispose of a damaged/broken neon sign? Any special considerations?

I am switching over to LED lighting with Solar Cell battery chargers as much as possible. Lighting is expensive!
