Our future mother country was celebrating at about the same time. Wait, do they celebrate New Years in Vladland?

Evidently his repertoire is a bit limited...

Not exactly 'Presidential' material by any measure. This is something I might expect from a spoilt schoolboy, but not from a national leader.

At the very least, proof that money can't buy class?

On 9/11/2001 this lowlife bragged that, after the Twin Towers fell, his building was the tallest in Lower Manhattan, again.

Hard to say whether he was bragging or not. It could be taken either way. His actual comment is here:

Have a display to do tonight for the UK New Year, I think our budget is a bit smaller.

Be careful tonight. You don't want this happening:

Notice they count down, then nothing happens for awhile (something is amiss?) and then ...

Wow, looks like the lifting charge failed but still ignited the time fuse which is meant to light the shell at the right height, hence the delay after the countdown. My display was OK but a bit waterlogged. It was on the beach & the tide came in harder than expected, at one point a wave broke over the shell racks.

That delay makes sense. Glad your display worked out. I guess they're somewhat waterproof, at least for awhile.

Just curious, what do those really big shells cost?

Happy New Year, btw!

Well they are made from scratch and the materials bought in bulk, so not that much, but the retail is another story and the cost can vary greatly from shell to shell...

We rarely use anything bigger than 6" because of the cost, they are around £10 each trade retail. 12" are about £250 each, anything bigger is special order (in the UK), in years gone by we have used bigger.

Building the two biggest (48") didn't go quite so well for these guys. The second one worked:
