Leadframe sizes

08/12/2007 11:07 PM

Hi, anyone here in the semiconductor manufacturing/packaging industry? Does anyone know what the largest leadframe size there is right now, or coming up in the near future? I keep hearing about this "High Density Leadframe" with a width of up to 80mm, but not sure if this is just day dreaming by some packaging engineers or really something which is becoming a reality. Thanks!

Mintech make semiconductor packages. I have a catalogue which is a few years old & the maximum package size I can see is 81.28 x 86.36mm with 124 pins.

Lead frames are manufactured by either stamping or chemical etching. Stamping is lower cost per frame, however, tooling is expensive. Etching is more costly per frame but tooling is low cost. If you can imagine a planar leadframe of any size, it can be etched.

You're probably talking about Matrix Frame where there is multiple row and column. I heard one semicon company is having 72mm width for QFP1010-52Pin (4 x 10 matrix) & QFP1414-100Pin (7x8). It's a way to reduce frame & material e.g resin cost as well as m/c thruput up. ANyone else have more info ?
