What is the required lift?

What is the required flowrate?

What is the level of suspended solids?

What daily flow rate and average flow rate? What is the diurnal curve of the daily flow you are trying to pump out? What size sump or pit are you physically trying to pump from(will the pumps fit?)? Who is going to receive this material after you pump it out? What will they be willing to accept? Who are the authorities that have jurisdiction over what you can or cannot do? Waht is the local code and acceptable practice?

You need to maintain a minimum velocity of the discharge line of 3 feet per second in order to prevent settlement of the solids and grit in the pumped discharge. If you are using a solids pump, your minimum discharge diameter pipe is 4 inches. Your pump rate must be accordingly. For single family homes this requires a significant holding period. Therefore, for 10 homes or less, grinder pumps are prefereable. You can use a smaller diameter discharge pipe. However, the cutting blade does wear faster than an impellar without a cutting blade would.

You have to select a pump based on the net lift, the necessary vacuum lift, the optimum efficiency, and the desired holding time. It is very difficult to describe this all in one e-mail. But once you grasp the concept of a system curve (the energy lost versus the pumping rate) versus the pump curve, the energy input versus the pumping rate, it is fairly easy to overlay the two curves and select a pump.

For a single Dwelling?? a Hotel, Small town, or whatevr. Each has different requirments. A single house has peak flows morning and evening and nothing much inbetween the wet well design needs to small and haunched to ensure solids get to the pump inlet effecientley a large town has a more constant inflow. The best option is to hire a good engineer who will advise you on the local codes/requirments etc.

Dear Karthik,

You need to select a submersible non clog centrifugal pumps based on the following factors .

  1. Type of sewage
  2. Size of Solid that pass through the pump
  3. Type of impeller channel/cutter/ grinder type.
  4. flow & Head shall be as per your reqmt .......

hope this will clear the concept.

Regards

Ayub
