Stamping "SS" on Flanges and Fittings

08/13/2007 12:22 PM

Dear sir,

If, one manufactures flanges/fittings
confirming to NACE

SPECIFICATION MR 01 75(CARBON 0.23% MAX,CARBON
EQUIVALENT 0.43 ,HARNESS

less than22 HRC FOR CARBON STEEL,normalized,no
welding done any part of job

IF I AM CORRECT ) AND FOR OTHER STEEL SUCH
AS ASTM A182 F 304 , 304 L , 316,

316L ETC. WITH CONDITIONS AS PER
MR0175. MY QUESTION IS WETHER ONE CAN STAMP

'SS' ON THERE FLANGE ? ALONG
WITH STANDARD MARKING AS PER MSS SP-25 i.e.

MANUFAURER'S LOGO , SIZE,
RATING , TYPE OF FLG. SCH. NO , STANDARD

(B16),MATERIAL ,HEAT CODE,
INSPECTION CODE AND 'SS' (FOR SOUR SERVICE

APPLICATION).

THANKING YOU,

V.D. DEODHAR

One certainly can.

Whether or not one must is determined by the content of the specification and the customer's requirements.

Usually the designations are: SS = standard strength, XS Extra Strenth, XX Extra Extra Strength. These are short form designations for the bursting pressures.
