Air Conditioning the Old Fashion Way

08/14/2007 9:18 AM

I saw this interesting piece the other day on CBS news. Credit Suisse in New York has installed an AC system that cools the building by blowing air over ice that had been made during off-peak hours. Estimates put yearly savings at $1 million.

Air conditioning using ice.

Here's a link to the makezine version(s):

Physicist Freeman Dyson was involved in a similar but much larger scale project in Princeton NJ in which they made snow in the winter, collected in an insulated pit in the ground, and circulated a working fluid through pipes in the pit to generate air conditioning for a building during the summer. I wasn't able to find a reference on it (I heard him speak about it a long time ago), so I don't know how well it worked out.

That's beautiful to read. In a way, when you really think about it, a well rounded functional exercise program is almost always the best way to correct posture and muscle imbalances.

Soft like butter, has a light lemon smell. Very rich & concentrated. A little goes a long way. It made my hair easy to comb and detangle. This will become one of my staple hair products.
