Mini Cooper Autonomous Biped Robot

11/14/2005 12:58 PM

Wow, this is amazing. A buddy forwarded it to me this morning. It's an autonomous biped robot conversion for the Mini Cooper r50. I'm not sure if it's real or not, but check out this video of the robot stopping a car (quicktime required).

Editorial Update: 2:10 EDT: It's a hoax. Part of a great viral marketing campaign.

Killing a good legend

11/14/2005 1:41 PM

As much as I hate to quash a good urban legend; its an ad. The Internet groups that like to talk about this stuff was all a buzz when it came out. Here is is nominated for one of the top hoaxes of 2004.
All this evidence made the robot stories seem believable. But in reality the Mini Cooper Autonomous Robot, Colin Mayhew, and Casson Publishing were all just part of an elaborate viral marketing campaign dreamed up by the ad agency Crispin Porter & Bogusky. What were they advertising? The new Mini Cooper obviously.
Still a good ad.
