Embedded System Software

08/15/2007 1:12 AM

Hi

I am new member and pursuing MTech in computer engineering second year. Now I am interested in Embedded System Security for my dissertation.

But I have not be able to get the title for completely on software side. As per I am from Computer background I would like to keep limit in software portion. But most of the papers from IEEE which i have found includes some hardware interfere (for example for handling power consumption) in Embedded System Security field.

I request u to share your idea and opinion in this field.

Hi, I'm willing to get shot down here or mocked mercilessly....

What do you understand by 'embedded software'?

I believe the common usage of this term has evolved to mean a commercial (PC) board built into a unit running an application written in-house (or bought in).

This means it hinges on PC architecture.

My definition would tend to include any hardware/software designed in-house which opens it up hugely, and would discount any off the shelf hardware/software combinations.

Like I say I may be out of step with the rest of the world here....

Please enlighten me guys.

Dear Vipul

I think you are the one who have come for the Line Tracker Robot training to my place and participated in Robotics competition at IIT Kanpur along with my son Akash. Akash has now moved to Florida State University for MS. Where are you now doing your M. Tech course?

Power management in embedded system using uC is done only for peripherals attached to the embedded system uC or single board computer. Hence, power is switched to the device in action in similar way you switch to power down your hard drive and CRT in computer in standby modes.

This sure makes things slower as in power switching time you can not operate the device or get any information. Generally in slow response systems, it is not much of a problem.

We also know similar power switching mechanisms in mobile phones where transmitter and receiver of wireless radio transceiver are switched and transmitter often remains OFF unless something is to be transmitted. Receiver remains ON almost all the time and consumes very little power. In search mode, intermittently power to the transmitter is also switched for short duration.

We are now having a training program in embedded systems and you can learn to build an embedded system that can switch power to various devices using software programs. In about 3 days you can master the hardware and software.

Write to me or call me. You can find my email and phone numbers on the website link below. I can guide your research and will make you work on a live research project. You can come with your friends.
