Number of Holes for Busbar / Cable Termination on Product

Practically.

Too many holes, or holes too large could weaken the (whatever) and possibly compromise the electrical properties.

Too few holes, or holes too small would make connection difficult. In the case of too few, some sort off additional intermediate device for expansion may be needed. If too small, they may not be suitable for whatever size of terminal is fitted to the attached conductors.

Please do not try to drill and tap new ones while in operation.

Are you referring to the hole patterns for lugs? If so, there are standards to follow, different for different parts of the world. For North America, we use NEMA standard hole patterns.

There are no standard design on how many hole you need to drill on the busbar. it depend individual experience and individual design. Of course the termination part of the cable lug at the final busbar will follow the cable lug holes and the number of holes will depend how your cable layout will be.

My question is on Product not bus-bar meant to terminate. When a designer designs a product how does he decide on no of holes and size of holes? Are there any relevant electrical standards which have to be adhered to? Thanks

The manufacture only manufacture busbar without holes. All holes are bore by the end user.
