Looks a bit like a doomsday weapon...

It's the outer shell of an antenna structure (akin to a radome). The brownish parts are an RF-transparent composite. The transmitting elements are enclosed to prevent damage from ice build-up. There are similar structures on some of the other mountains in the area.

No shame in that, two generations (at least) of children got their first exposure to Opera because of Bugs Bunny dressing in drag and riding the Fattest Horse in the UNIVERSE. I'd much prefer that tunnel to 'Midi's cable cars. The cables recently became entangled during very high winds and a number of gondolas full of passengers were stranded overnight. The temps at those altitudes routinely drop below -10F even during the day. Yeah, I'd take that tunnel any day.
