Where Eagle Dare

05/07/2017 6:54 AM

There is a theme on my Opera page that I cannot determine where the photo was taken.

It shows a sharp,jagged isolated mountain peak with what looks like a smokestack or tower on top,and a bridge to an adjacent peak which also has a structure on it.

I tried to paste here,but it will not accept the format,and I cannot change the format by attempting to save as a different file type.

If anyone uses Opera,with VPN, it is one of the Theme selections.

Can anyone help me determine the location of this photo?

Thanks in advance for all help on this.

Could you take a screen shot and save it in different format?

This one? This is Aiguille du Midi in the French Alps.

It's the outer shell of an antenna structure (akin to a radome). The brownish parts are an RF-transparent composite. The transmitting elements are enclosed to prevent damage from ice build-up. There are similar structures on some of the other mountains in the area.

That's it!GA!

Sometimes I want to get away from it all, but this is a little too much away for me.

I presume sleepwalkers need not apply for the night shift.

Fantastic Links! THANKS Eagle! I don't know how you find all of this stuff..you must have been a bloodhound in a previous life.

"A coward dies a thousand deaths,the valiant but once." (I can't remember the source of that quote,but it certainly true in this case.)

These guys exemplify the epitome of confidence and courage.

What a set of 'nads!

In filming this,the photographer not only documented this amazing feat,but allowed the world a glimpse into the life of those that live on the edge,where life is largest,and risk it all to ride the razor thin edge between this world and the next.

Thanks again,S.E.!

..."you must have been a bloodhound in a previous life"...

No, always the eagle....20 years now searching the internet from top to bottom....I had the first broadband connection in Florida, so they told me... I have shaped the experience in many ways that people experience online today...

"A coward dies a thousand deaths,the valiant but once." (I can't remember the source of that quote,but it certainly true in this case.)

Cowards die many times before their deaths;
The valiant never taste of death but once.
Of all the wonders that I yet have heard,
It seems to me most strange that men should fear;
Seeing that death, a necessary end,
Will come when it will come.William Shakespeare, "Julius Caesar", Act 2 scene 2

I only knew it was Caeser because of a Geico commercial!

My dad used to say that to me all the time. That is why I went off to college instead of joining the army during the Vietnam War.

"I only knew it was Caeser because of a Geico commercial!"

No shame in that, two generations (at least) of children got their first exposure to Opera because of Bugs Bunny dressing in drag and riding the Fattest Horse in the UNIVERSE. (Since Brunhilde was supposed to be voluptuous, and Bugs is a skinny drink of water, the animators took all the curves Brunhilde should have had and gave them to 'her' steed.)

Do you have snipping tool? You can snip an image, save it, and insert the jpg file with the image insertion tool in the cr4 toolbar.

Not a place for acrophobics. The cable car leading to it has one of the steepest ascents in the world.

I'd much prefer that tunnel to 'Midi's cable cars. The cables recently became entangled during very high winds and a number of gondolas full of passengers were stranded overnight. The temps at those altitudes routinely drop below -10F even during the day. Yeah, I'd take that tunnel any day.
