Pour Monitoring

11/18/2005 8:38 AM

It's the end of the ride for big tippers and friends of bartenders everywhere; there is now a wireless system that monitors how much bartenders pour from each bottle and individually tracks the amount of alcohol dispensed in an evening. They are trying to end the "heavy pour" that some bartenders use for friends or good tippers; any overage for the amount of drinks served can be charged to the bartender. Personally I don't want the bar to keep track of how much extra vodka I have in my drinks.

airports have this already...

Dear chris, As I sit and sip my gin and tonic, I remember that while waiting to board my last flight at Denver International Airport, I watched the bartender attach a cable to the bottle and look away while she tipped it over my glass. the top of the bottle had the most monsterous spout i have ever seen. It automaticaly stopped the pour at exactly 1 oz. I had ordered a double( don't worry I am not a pilot) so she tipped it again. I thought about it and from the dollar standpoint, it makes sense. The systems that are bing used are to keep track of liquor cost. Bartenders are allowed to comp a few drinks only every so often. Some can be written off as mispour(wrong drink...no such thing in my opinion). In any case I wouldn't worry about them tracking the individual customers intake. Unless you count tracking your order when you trow down the plastic to keep your tab open. Better start paying with cash...
