Check out the page on GlobalSpec and then choose the Application Notes link. It's on the right-hand side in the "Of Interest" box.

You could look at the unique requirements of PLC-based safety-rated control systems vs. standard process control systems...

You can start by trying out a traffic lights control project. The sequence that it uses to control traffic and pedestrian crossing. Study the operation and apply it to the program. I would recommend using a type that will allow you to use either statement list or ladder logic.

'' If you believe you can achieve"

Good luck

I gather by "PLC" you are describing a "Programmable Logic Controller".

If so, the control applications number into the millions.

I have used PLC's to control a plating line and a Concrete Processing Plant and numerous other machines. There are hundreds of text books on PLC's and many have exercises that start out small and build in complexity.

Do some searching at PLC Manufactures web sites and you will probably come up with some literature that take you step by step through designing some simple control programs.

A PLC can be used to do anything:

Operate Traffic Lights

Operate a production making automobiles

Control multiple fans and Air Conditioning units

Operate machinery, etc

The possibilities are endless, limited only by your imagination (and budget)

I have used an obsolete PLC and electrical equipment to build a 'skee-ball' game at my house too.

Several christmases ago, we used a PLC to control our christmas lights in our workshop.

We made all sorts of patterns and kept adding new ones on almost a daily basis. It became a showcase of sorts for visitors.

Yes sir. It was the most expensive set of christmas lights ever made!
