Code For Cosmological Calculator

07/04/2017 2:22 PM

I have been using the calculator at http://www.einsteins-theory-of-relativity-4engineers.com/cosmocalc.htm manually for a variety of SN1a data points. The process is tedious. I would like to take some of the code dealing with proper recession speed and proper distance and automate it to take in a csv file and put out a file with some output columns added. Has anyone already done this? Is there a way to get the original code or something that is automated already? Thanks.

I'm reasonably sure somebody has done this....but will have to search for it...

Univ improved constraints on cosmological parameters from SN1a data

Is the above link relevant?

I have not a good clue what it means, but there you go.

You might need to make your own. Here is the reference for the formulas:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distance_measures_(cosmology)

I don't know if everything you need is here. If you can verify that you can reproduce the results for one data point set with formulas, you can put the formulas into Excel. If you can get the Excel spreadsheet to reproduce the data for one data set on a single row, then you can load your data in, one data set per row and copy the formulas to all the rows.

You have three options: 1) Make the spreadsheet, 2) Use the calculator for each data set, 3) Search for an automated calculator.

Which one turns out to be the least effort depends on how many data sets you have, and, well, luck.

I have made a more general purpose calculator with copy-able columns and graphs, but this may perhaps also not be quite what you need.

I have also written a tutorial on physicsforums, of which part 3 gives the equations for most of the parameters calculated.

The code is unfortunately not in available in a documented form - just the bare code as you can get by viewing the source of the page as text.

Hope it helps.

Jorrie

Where I come from, it might require we actually knew what all this stuff means.

I usually just look up at night and say, yep, there they are again!

Jorrie,

If there is a way to get whatever text code you have, that will be a better start than from scratch.

Am I allowed to give you my email address here for you to send it to, or do you have a web site where it exists?

Thanks, Bruce
