Retainer for Soft Seat Wafer Type Butterfly Valve

Hello Everyone

Do Retainer is required for Soft Seat (PTFE. etc) Wafer type butterfly valve.

My Wafer type Butterfly Valve :

Temperature max is 90 deg and normal is 60 deg

Class VI leakage.

or for Higher temperature metal to metal seat Retainer required.

kindly clear my dought.

The application and modes of operation of the particular valve you are looking at will dictate whether a retainer is required, and that will be answered by the valve designer.

For instance, if you need to have full pressure shutoff from either flow direction of the valve, the retainer will probably prevent the pressure from blowing out the seat, assuming the shutoff design is for one direction flow.

So you need to select a valve, then see if it will meet all of your operating conditions, including maintenance, cleaning and plant shutdown.

PTFE is fine for any application where you can utilize wafer type valve.
