Looking for a GPIB Cable Continuity Tester

10/26/2017 2:46 PM

If anyone knows of a company that sells a continuity tester for GPIB cables, please let me know. We use a lot of GPIB cables at my place of employ, and would like a quick method to know if our cables are good.

You could roll your own by buying a couple of mating connectors.

Wire first as 1-2,3-4,5-6, ... 23-24.

Wire the second 2-3, 4-5, 6-7, ..., 22-23.

Connecting connectors to the ends of the cable to test, measure for continuity between pins 1 and 24 on the second connector.

That's a great setup for a quick test of 'are there any broken wires?' which would me needed to troubleshoot systems.

If a more detailed test is required, talk to a local electronics engineer/engineering student. I'm sure they could design a machine that would send a pulse down each wire in turn, with indicators to confirm continuity pin 1 to pin 1, pin 2 to pin 2, etc...
