By the time it filters down to regular consumers the price will drop considerably I'm thinking, it's the bandwidth that will be lacking....I'm still waiting for cable to catch up to my tv I bought 5 years ago....
..."Are HD channels broadcast in 1080p resolution? Our high definition Spectrum Receivers are capable of receiving resolutions up to 1080p. The resolution of our HD channels is set by each individual broadcaster, and currently the HD content from all broadcasters is either 1080i or 720p."...
The "I" means the refresh rate is only 30hz....my tv is capable of 1080p at 120hz....I didn't realize at the time that cable broadcast would lag so far behind available technology....some 4k entry level tv's I've seen go for $2500, but the content is sparse...and you have to pay extra....you probably could watch everything that is available in 4k in a couple of days...
Don't be confused by internet providers by purchasing what you thought was 100 MB but turns out to be 100 Mb per second speed instead...there are 8 bits in a byte and internet providers are not quick to point out the difference....but it is substantial....and also take note that those are maximum speeds, they never seem to mention minimum speed, because there are none...the more people using the internet at any one time, the slower your speed is going to be, and the maximum speed has little to no meaning when the bandwidth is oversold, and you can rely on the provider to squeeze maximum profit from the bandwidth they are providing....
When internet installations are performed in my area, the download and upload speeds are measured using an online website, and they do correspond to the values offered.
Yes, the maximum bits per second ....and no guaranteed minimum ....
Internet Connection Speed Recommendations
Below are the internet download speed recommendations per stream for playing TV shows and movies through Netflix.
0.5 Megabits per second - Required broadband connection speed
1.5 Megabits per second - Recommended broadband connection speed
3.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for SD quality
5.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for HD quality
25 Megabits per second - Recommended for Ultra HD quality
If you are streaming video to the internet then your upload speed is critical....At times of heavy usage like in the evenings, your speed can drop considerably....You can see that as we move to 4k video and looking at 8k on the horizon, the bandwidth requirements are going to rise exponentially....
That's on wifi....plugged in it's at 20 Mbps....On wifi I can watch the 4k with an occasional buffeting , but 8k forget it, constant stoppage...The max resolution of my acer monitor is 1920 x 1080, so not getting full 4k....I can set the 8k at 4k and watch it ok....rather spectacular...I supposed to have 60 Mbps....

So is it time I retired my CRT TV set that is fuzzy in the bottom left corner where the put the writing? Yes? But with my cataracts it may not make much difference. Actually, I got a new flat screen TV upstairs, and it looks a lot better and is not even 4K.

I can't imagine 8k. I have a 2k monitor and just bought a 4k, 120hz, 55" smart TV with HDR for myself at Christmas. Not much broadcast in 4k but I bought a couple of 4k blurays, one being the Fate of the Furious and Avatar. Avatar is stunning in 4k.
