Multix Mini Truck

02/04/2018 1:11 AM

Would you buy one of these trucks if they were available in the u.s. ? The Multix is a small utility truck that has several unique features, first it is powered by a single cylinder diesel engine, with a 4 speed manual gearbox. The rear cab panel and rear glass can be removed and stored within the body doubling the cargo capacity. The rear differential has an output shaft that can be used to power a generator, water pump, etc

It currently is being manufactured in India by a joint venture between Eischer motors and Polaris industries. Retail price is approximately $ 3600.00 usd.

I believe the retail price being equivalent to $3,600 USD... but not if it's brought to the US.

That's what many companies are trying to get for a decent electric bike...

Which is INSANE I might add..

But Yes. At $3600 new and if it were street legal? I'll have as much fun as a guy without four Corvettes can have in the thing.

Farm nothing.. that's a city vehicle

"a single cylinder diesel engine"

ugh!

Conversion to electric might be interesting - got just the driveline -

I haven't seen one of these before, I don't know anything about them. Interesting. I checked with one of our favorite general information sources, and they have a short article about these vehicles:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eicher_Polaris_Multix

According to this, the Multix has an on-board 3 kW generator.

These days it ought to have an electric motor. That just might eliminate the need for a gearbox, or at least make possible a simpler two-speed gearbox. Of course then the Power Take-Off shaft would not logically be used for powering a generator, but maybe a portable sawmill.

This engine configuration is quite common in India. You see them all the time belching out plumes of fumes. Given the type of engine would it pass California vehicle pollution regulations?

Just what the world needs, another pollution generator disgusted as a vehicle being sold to people who don't care.

And the beat goes on......

You don't think they will make an effort to dramatically improve the emission standards? If they are partnering with Polaris, I expect them to adhere to the company mission / Environmental Commitment.

It's tough but they do care. More with each passing year.. Just like the US, but understandably much further behind.

Heck.. VW cared so much that they lied about it to increase acceptance / sales..

Saw this down in Kerala 6 months ago, (India) A joint venture with Tata and Polaris. That is the only place I have physically seen some in a showroom. A very handy machine for India where diesel sells for Inr75.oo per litre. ($1.17). Spacious and simple and ideal for Indian roads.

A great little electric rickshaw from Sweden that operate in Noida up the road from me here, at the DLF shopping Mall. They certain need to clean up the air pollution in this country a great deal.
