Separation Efficiency of 3-Phase Oil & Gas Separator

09/07/2007 8:59 PM

We have a new 3-Phase (oil & gas) separator, designed in accordance with API 12J and ASME BPVC Section VIII, Div. 1. Now, the separator is under experimental and test operations. We need to evaluate the separation efficiency for both liquid/liquid and gas/liquid.

a. What are the recommended equations to be used?

b. Is there any API (or any other code) supporting these equations?

Re: Separation Efficiency of 3-Phase Oil & Gas Separator

Hi Sir Abdel Halim Cairo Refinery: I am writing from Venezuela-South America, please see my profile in Piping Design& Petroleum Engineering Groups in CR4.

Recently I saw your inquiry on 09-07-2007 about " Evaluation of Separation Efficiency of 3-phase water-oil-gas separator". None answered but (never is too late) I think I can help you. I like to send you some guides of the Processes Manual ( of course when you send me your e-mail address) and others technical papers about it.

The equations governing the traditional design gas-liquid or liquid-liquid separation are the Stokes´s Law, Gravitational Law and Momentum. You know that!

Additionally, the parameters to consider are:

1. Separator Type (vertical, horizontal)

2. Flow rates

3. Properties of fluids including specific gravities, viscosities, surface tension, droplet sizes

4. Geometric configuration

5. Internal devices ( flow distributors, deviators, baffles, demisters).

6. P y T @ operations conditions

Best regards
