Bypass Isolator

02/08/2018 10:37 PM

Dear Sirs,

In case of double busbar schemes - both busbars are energized. But in case of main and transfer bus scheme - only one busbar is energized normally.

Is 'bypass isolator' used only in case of main and transfer bus schemes?

Regards,

..."The bypass isolation switch is designed for applications where maintenance, inspection and testing must be performed while maintaining continuous power to the load. This is typically required in critical life support systems and standby power situations calling for safe system maintenance with no power disruptions."...

Bypass isolation switches are just alternative paths to provide uninterrupted power to critical systems during repair or maintenance of existing switchgear...sometimes they are part of a system to switch to an alternative power source such as in the case of emergency backup power when a power outage is sensed the switch is automatically triggered...

'Bypass' refers to bypass of the feeder CB.

When this is done, the transfer bus CB acts as the feeder CB, with all the subject feeder protection trips transferred to the transfer bus CB.

This is seen in Main and Transfer bus as well as Two main and transfer bus schemes.

This arrangement was popular when the outdoor CBs needed more/frequent attention.
