The speed in an induction motor with direct-on-line starting is governed by the frequency of the supply.

Starter is a technical names given to a device that is used to start any induction motor from its initial speed up to the maximum speed. Devices like Direct On Line Starters (DOL) or Star Delta Starters (that start a induction motor from star point to Delta point at full speed).
