Structural Calculation Support Needed, especially for Box Culverts

09/13/2007 4:49 AM

Please help me with structural calculations methods and examples on the design of a double cell RC Box culvert (3.5 meters wide / cell, 4.5 meters high and fill of 4 meters high) across a 11 meters long road.

Also I would be grateful if I could get a lead into a site for a free software that helps to design box culverts.

You have to identify loads (vehicle loads, soil lateral/bearing pressure, current, impact, etc.) to be applied on the structural systems, to do structural analysis. May use MDM to determine critical moments and shears, values needed for the design part to determine the thickness of the concrete walls/slabs and foundation, and the reinforcements required.

Even if you are going to use a software, you will still need to identify/calculate loads/pressures/forces that will act on your structural systems as inputs.

Hope this helps.

BTW, how wide is the road? (you mentioned 11 meters long road)

I am trying to modify the foundation for CALTRAN traffic signal light Type 19-4-100 from drilled pier to spread footing. Can I get the design loads at the base plate (reactions and anchor bolt forces) from CALTRAN to use for design of a new foundation? Is there a typicalcal culation that I can Follow
