What is the Scope of Electrical Engineering?

05/15/2018 6:37 AM

There is huge scope for electrical Engineering in science and technology that includes electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism in order to design, construct, and maintain products, services, and information systems. Electrical Engineering deals with power transmission and engine control.
Students completing electrical engineering can either go for job or can do higher studies.

There are large no. of job openings available for students who have completed B.Tech(Electrical Engineering). Students those want to do M.Tech/ MBA/ M.S should first gain some experience and then should go for higher studies. Then it will be easy to you to grasp the course.

As an Electrical Engineer you can have a large number of career options ahead of you:

  • PSU jobs- Large vacancies in PSU are being filled up every year through GATE. 95% of the PSUs recruit EE graduates.
  • M. Tech- In a variety of specializations which can be core electrical, electronics oriented, a hybrid stream. Again GATE is a must for this option.
  • MSc - Apply for IIT JAM Exam
  • M.S- Appear for GRE and go for an M.S degree abroad.
  • Private Core Electrical sector- Core Markets were down for a long time but now they are witnessing an upward trend.
  • Construction sector- A large number of private players dominate this industry and EE grads are quite in demand because of the type of projects being executed these days.
  • IT sector- Probably the one your college will land you in at first. EE grads, as any other graduates, are always welcome here.
  • A plenty of other options common for all graduates like banking, CGL etc. Totally depends on where you want to be.

There are certainly a lot more involved with electrical engineering than: "electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism in order to design, construct, and maintain products, services, and information systems. Electrical Engineering deals with power transmission and engine control." Suggest you go back and research the subject again. What about the EE's that worked on that heart pacemaker, designed that glide slope instrument landing system, communications from ultra low band to up in the giga's, space stations, train's automatic speed/collision controls, automobile development, and many others. There is a list too long to even start to imagine of the places for EE's to work.

The most ideal EE job I ever saw was a guy who designed, made, produced, repaired and anything else that needed to be done at a gigantic model train operating display. Imagine that, paid to play with trains!!!!

Good Luck, Old Salt

Electrical engineering is having large scope in government as well as private sector. You can prepare for GATE and ESE exams to enter into psu's like BHEL, HOCL, IOCL and NPCIL . You can also opt for private electrical companies.
