1949 Chrysler New Yorker

05/21/2018 12:42 AM

I have 49 NEW YORKER straight 8 motor. I have been unable to locate a good "starter solenoid". My old one is rusted etc, I am being it's not rebuild-able. I have posted on e bay many different sites for old car parts with no help and MO PAR can't help. I know this is not a car club but as much as it is for engineer help. I have had the car since 1972 in storage and now that I'm in my late 70's it's time to get her running again.

Thanks for any help. I enjoy reading everyone's input each time I go on line.

You might have better luck finding a later model starter/solenoid that will fit. The tooth count for your model is 142.

Unless you are restoring for show or competition, I suspect that's not the case, then you might consider retrofitting the starter system to a more modern type....

Thought - how do similar cars in Cuba keep running?

A lot of them now have other engines - I gather Mitsubishi ones are popular.

They put petrol in them, I'm guessing.

Just got back from Cuba, majority of the re-engine jobs are diesel.
