Questions About Drilling

09/15/2007 12:37 AM

1. If I'm to use a low or medium pressure drilling hammer, what pressure range of compressure do I require to power each of them?

2.I got a fairly used CompAir compressor of about 500cfm, working pressure of about 12bar. When it was started, the pressure guage rose and stood at 12bar. Does this mean that is the actual pressure value the compressor will supply when it's been used to hammer? If not, how can I determine the actual pressure it will likely supply when being discharged or loaded?

*********************************

Please, I have a drilling head of ratio 10:1. Which of these motor, low speed or high speed do I need to drive it?

What will usually make a drilling head have a very good torque?

*********************************

Can someone kindly suggest to me some reliable drilling hammer brands of either low or medium pressure?

Most pnuematic drills require a minimum of 80 psi to actuate, with a max of 120 psi.

Your voluum rate is addiquate for the drill. Plus, your drill should, but not always, do have a built in setting valve which allows for a veriable drill rate. this is usually located at the sqweeze trigger on the handles. If you do a search on the web for pnuematic brills, I would assure you many pages of references.

Suppose that you have the answers to all of your questions here, do you really believe you now know how to drill?.

Based on the nature and level of your questions, you don't have a clue.

An advise from a 20 years of drilling experience, If you are asking these questions, you would be much better off getting a driller to teach you. You are playing a dangerous game.

What are you drilling? Wells, mine shaft, steel parts, concrete, aluminum, brass, etc, etc.

A hammer drill is not generally used for all of the above materials. Each requires a different approach, and variuos types of bits.

The speeds and feeds you choose also depend on the material you are trying to drill.

CFMs are extremely important with pneumatic tools of any kind, combined with the recommended pressure. Most compressors at high pressures will have reduced CFMs, and higher CFMs at lower pressures.
