Bugatti Veyron

12/16/2005 8:28 AM

Volkswagon has produced what is thought to be the ultimate in automotive design. Priced at around $1m, this is way beyond anything that's been done before! At a cost to VW of $5m per vehicle, it's hard to understand this as being anything other than an engineering exercise to demonstrate quite amazing technology. Michelin has designed tires especially for this car! It has a total of 10 (yep, 10!) radiators (including one to cool the hydraulic fluid for the rear spoiler), 4 turbo chargers, W16 engine layout and 1000 horsepower!!! And it looks darn good! 0 to 60mph in 2.5 seconds, anyone?

That's the most impressive concept car I've ever seen.

Believe it or not.....it's not a concept vehicle!!! I don't know how many VW have actually made, but it's an actual production car. Want to lend me a million bucks?????

Veyron it doesn't get any better

12/16/2005 10:23 AM

Somethings to think about... a Formula One car does 0-60 in 2.2 seconds a Bugatti Veyron does 0-60 in 2.5 seconds a Formula One car has a top speed of 380km/h a Bugatti Veyron has a top speed of 400km/h (wow) the Veyron can go from 0-180 MPH in 14 seconds. the Mclaren Mercedes SLR does it in 28 seconds (double) Model Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Engine 7993cc, 16 cylinders in a W Power 1001bhp @ 6000rpm Torque 922 lb ft @ 2200rpm Transmission 7-speed DSG, manual and auto Fuel 11.7mpg (combined) CO2 574g/km Acceleration 0-62mph: 2.5sec Top speed 253mph Price £810,345 Rating Five stars Verdict Deserves 12 stars. Simply as good — and as fast — as it gets

Awesome, no? Apparently, from a standing start the McLaren F1 (previously thought to be the ultimate in supercar design) can be allowed to reach 120 mph......and the Veyron will STILL reach 200mph before it! I'm hooked!

Yeah...Sucks to be the guy driving the McLaren...The Veyron is fast on a whole different level..I wonder if it will be DOT legal?

Apparently so. I don't know if the US laws are different to the UK & Europe, but a journalist (Jeremy Clarkson, 'Top Gear') drove one in a race from the south of Italy to London (against a Cessna 180 of all things).......and won! Even including all the stops he had to make because his legs were shaking :-)

The porsche dauer did 0-60mph in 2.6 seconds back in 92, this car has not done this in a significantly faster time.

That was a one seat racing car designed for Le Mans remember. The Bugatti's an actual production vehicle. One of the major engineering triumphs was in producing a gearbox that could handle 1000bhp over the lifetime of the vehicle, as opposed to a few races. Dauer's a nice car, but my money's well & truly on the big Bug

It's a serious piece of art!

Nice looking overall design, with lots of engineering innovation.

The bit which I love best: 3-part design.

Its 3-segment design makes a lot of engineering sense, ... wonder why that concept isn't copied by everyone else.
