Remote Screen Installation

06/09/2018 3:26 PM

I had a problem with placing my treadmill in my new space, but finally found a location that works ....the problem was I like to watch videos while walking, and the only location that worked faced a wall...So I decided I could add a remote screen to my desktop computer, since I had an old Dell 19" monitor, the only things I needed was a connector cable that was long enough and went from hdmi to dvi connection, as those were the only two connections that would work....amazingly enough I was able to find a 35' foot cable that was just long enough....the other problem that hadn't occurred to me at the time, was a way to control the computer from that remote location, this was solved by getting a wireless mouse...Now I can stream my cable tv or really anything to the screen....My last addition was the split conduit to hide the wires somewhat, more by color than anything....anyway here's the result...

The screen was detached from the stand and the mounting bracket was attached to a piece of 4"x 5" x .75" block of wood which was mounted to the wall....the screen detaches from the wall with the push of a button...

I walk about 5 miles every morning on the treadmill, and I agree that boredom is the hardest part. I just use an IPAD sitting on the little shelf on the treadmill and watch Netflix TV shows and movies. It's got WiFi connection, no cables to hassle with. It works for me.

Well I don't have an ipad, I guess I could have gone with the phone, I have a 6+ iphone, but I like the larger screen and keeping my head in the upright position, and that extra monitor was just begging for something to do....haha Wow 5 mi pretty impressive...I'm lucky if I manage 2....

Nice job.

I ride my $99.00 USD Walmart bicycle 3-5 miles every morning while it's cool. There is a canal with a 10 foot wide bike path 1/8 mile from our house. I have a radio that slides into the bike frame and I listen to NPR. I can ride through neighborhoods if I want a change of scenery.

That sounds like a nice setup....I notice a lot of people around here do the same thing, you know just around the neighborhood, that and walking their dogs...

Ah, a treadmill you say. A Wiki check tells me it’s an exercise machine.

Ex Mrs. Doorman #1 bought one sort of like the one imaged, but all she used it for was drying wet coats.

She also spent a bunch of money on an unusual bicycle with only one wheel. Wouldn’t go anywhere, but of course one would have to sit on it and pedal for it to do anything. This was also a marvelous coat drier, as I recall.

My current wife bought a treadmill. I don't know if she ever used it but the tread made a great place for piling even more stuff we didn't need.

My hips don't tolerate long walks and I never tried to use it.

I'm happy peddling my a*s all over the neighborhood.

I believe that If a fella was in the market for a stationary bike, treadmill, that sort of thing - he could probably hit garage sales, pawn stores, flea markets, etc. and find some nearly unused equipment priced at ten cents on the dollar, and haggle them down about 50% more.

Hey, I just got The Daily Digest, and my thread about the top ten movies is Front Page Above the Fold. I’m famous! Wahoo!

[edit] markin this OT. Drifting off the SE project here, which is a pretty clean install, by the way. I like it.
