Proximity Sensors?

06/14/2018 9:01 PM

can anyone recommend a proximity sensor with a very small footprint that can be used as a beacon to be located by an Android/IOS application on a cell phone?

thanks!

This has 200ft range, otherwise appears to be what you want...

do you know what a "proximity sensor" is or does? It is not a beacon. It detects!

Try this for an explanation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proximity_sensor

Thanks for your suggestions. The IOS and Android applications should be able to locate the sensor as the mobile device approaches the projectile from a distance of 274 meters or 300 yards or less.

300 yards isn’t really ‘proximity’.

I’m confused, are you making a targeting system or a fuse for this projectile?

I’m not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling about this thread.

The word PROJECTILE gets me nervous when discussed in an anonymous forum unless it's from Del and his archery!

YIKES!!!!

I’m thinking our OP is ESL, and projectile might not be the correct word.

Twisting the NAIVE knob on my tinfoil hat to 100%, it sounds like our OP wants to stick a target in his kids’ phones so he can find ‘em at the ball park.

Or, I could be way, way off in this WAG.

Perhaps the term projectile is not the most accurate description. I am attempting to specify a VLSI circuit (RFID, Bluetooth, or NFC) with a small footprint to support a recreational application. I am looking for a device that can be located from the mobile phone using the IOS/Android app. Not exactly for locating the kids but to use the phone to locate the VLSI device.

RFID, NFC, and Bluetooth are pretty short range, measured in inches not yards.

Have you investigated devicetrackerplus, that sort of application?

Or, should a target cell phone be removed from your request - a parasite transmitter, not necessarily associated with cellular communication at all?

Thanks.

Yes. I have investigated device tracker plus.

I am actually attempting to locate the VLSI circuit from the mobile phone as the phone approaches the circuit from the distance that I specified. So the phone app would either point to or emit an audible sound that increases as the mobile phone gets closer to the VLSI device utilizing whatever technology (IOT, RF, NFC, bluetooth) as the mobile phone approaches this circuit (or beacon or sensor). I am also open to suggestion. The mobile phone app would be able to "find" this device as the phone approaches it.

Is the target device allowed to be enabled, or is this something that should locate the target device surripticiously?

Or, are you developing a chip that needs to be embedded on an already crowded board inside a very crowded enclosure? You continue to tell us VLSI.

Yes, I would want the target device to be enabled by the cell phone app. I would like to identify a chip that has already been developed to be embedded inside an enclosure.

Perhaps I’m being dense, but I don’t understand why an established cell phone app like Glympse or Familonet isn’t the solution to your query. Seems to me that one of the several dozen available similar apps (many at no charge) would work for you.

Can you tell us your resistance to using such an app for your circumstance?

[edit] I read again your #15, and I see you have avoided the question posed: Restated, are you attempting to define a very precise location of a cellular device, one that the owner does not know you are looking for it?

Well, I have been dense.

We aren’t stalking some girl at a concert of finding the kids, are we? We are looking for lost hunting or target arrows, aren’t we?

Ya see, this thread so far is what we commonly (derisively) know as 20 Questions. Better responses to our questions will yield better responses for your use. Nobody here cares about your idea, we are all filthy stinkin rich and we don’t need to pinch your idea.

So just tell us what you are doing okay?

So, I am not trying to locate family or friends with Glympse or Familionet. I am attempting to precisely locate a micro circuit via a mobile phone application. This is for a recreational requirement. So I am wondering if there is a embedded circuit that can be enabled a precisely located as the mobile phone approaches it.

Yup, no trouble. Glad we could help.

to end up with the solution being a cellphone doggie finder.

OK, so you are trying to add a device to an arrow that will locate friends or family members in a crowd out to 300 yards and steer the arrow to the recipient?

Oh, and you've tied a message around the arrow for delivery to the recipient?

There are times I'd buy that app.

What does, "Semper Ubi Sub Ubi ," mean?

The literal translation (per online translator) is meaningless.

Thank you,

Semper ubi sub ubi is the profound advice given to youngsters.

Rather than interpret the verb less sentence, translate each word and speak these words quickly.

While this works in English, I have doubts that other languages will produce the same results.

My first thought is to use the built-in BlueTooth and just already know the the other device. Connection range is roughly known already too. And actual range is easy to test if both devices are yours to begin with.

In addition to the dog trackers already mentioned, rthere are little tags that are intended for attaching to keys, to help find them when misplaced.
