I'm not surprised. The eye is a kind of camera, and potatoes have eyes!

So... In this case, SLR stands for Spud Lens Reflex.

And if they put a webcam in it and made videos, it would be...

(wait for it)

a YouTuber.

Hey! What’s happening to my images? This is the second one to disappear in two days.

I guess I should ask - can you guys see the angry Mr Potatohead I posted in #7, because I can’t. I had an image of Audrey in the giant hogweed thread, did the same thing.

Huh. Dunno.

Redfred noted a few days ago that GA and almost GA are now listed in the header in the inverted order of thread comment number. I wonder if images, if not in some particular format, are affected as well by the same CR4 system mod.

Just as likely that I am not doing something correctly - on my phone now, I’ll try later on the PC, see if an image sticks then.

Yep, a raccoon smoking a pipe, wearing a cowboy hat.

Can you see this?

Interesting.

inserted same image from clipboard as #7, and it showed up.

I try to edit the comment, and I get a message “Cannot convert blob...”

Today is Martin Landeau’s birthday, and he did appear in a number of episodes of Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, The X Files...

Just sayin...

[edit] My attempted posted image was a Mr Potatohead doll looking askance at usbport and his silly GA comment.

How are you posting images -- cut and paste or importing a file? Cut and paste doesn't always work. No idea why.

I cut ‘n pasted here, as I usually do. I will try later on a PC, see if results are different.

This was odd: I had actually never heard that phrase 'took a picture with a potato' before, but-- just a short while later I watched this way-cool video by Destin / Smarter Every Day, and he used that phrase!

Weird - never heard it before, then twice in the same day.

Anyway this video is fascinating:

the photogrpaher's camera is encased in an underwater housing, so potato is rubbed on the casing's lens/viewport. it's a close shot, so it's a little on the wider angle. i'll head back to the bookstore to check what magazine it was. but it's one of many UK mags that are in the photo section.

anyway, he says he sticks half a potato in his wetsuit, so potato gets wet when he gets in the water, and he breaks it out as needed.

there must be other surf photographers here who've heard of this.

edit:

i have a canon a650 with the underwater casing, which i use for diving. casing for my 40D is ridiculously expensive, and since i don't dive that often, unjustifiable. but i do surf once in a while, and i've always wanted to take my camera with me for fun shots. focusing will probably suck though since it's a point and shoot camera

Seems a bit crude. A true maker would freeze the potato and do a precision machining job on the CNC with occasional doses of dry ice shavings to keep it frozen.

Really innovative like singing a birthday song for Tu Youyou.
