Good Answer Order

06/19/2018 9:21 AM

I've noticed the order that GA comments get presented lately is now with the highest entry number first instead of the lowest entry number first. Was this intentional?

I see what you mean. This is not an intentional change.

I'm not sure if it is worth forwarding along to our dev team, unless there is a specific complaint.

Thanks RF.

I'm not complaining. I just thought somebody in administration should know of this.

There is an irony here you might find amusing. I just finished a presentation on how seemingly benign software changes (Kernel updates, antivirus scans, etc.) can effect a system in unanticipated ways.

I suspect that is exactly what happened...

Why wouldn't they be listed in the proper order...but if the score is equal, then the list order is non-consequential, or is it? I always read the answers in order, then if an answer I feel is superlative, I vote a GA...It's not till I finish that I might check any votes, GA or OT...but first I answer the question if I can, or make a comment...The answers in a lot of cases tend to get more detailed as the thread runs its course, but not necessarily better in the sense that the OP understands it better, no one can say with certainty which answer communicates the most pertinent information to the OP except the OP, who in some cases might not understand fully the best answer as interpreted by the posters...Actually a GA vote from the OP is the true measure of satisfaction gleaned, though maybe not in the opinion of the other posters...So the GA voting system is more for the other readers than the OP in some cases...I don't see that the order makes much difference, other than somebody reading just the "good answers" would be reading them in reverse order, possibly a bit confusing in some cases...It doesn't seem right...

The administration would like to promote the idea that anyone can come up with a good answer.

I can't think why anything changed unless this is a byproduct of the code updates put in place last month.

I doubt that it needs promotion. If you are diligent, and know the subject to hand, any well reasoned answer may be judged good.

As with beauty, a GA is in the eye of the beholder. The OP may not always be equipped to make an intelligent choice, at that time.

Google searches are awarded too many Ga's in my opinion, but if they provide the correct solution to the dilemma of the OP, then who cares where the answer came from, if it helps.

I guess I'm not observant enough to even understand why this matters.

This is interesting. In the breakroom thread "Mea Culpa" the Good Answers are in ascending order while the almost good answers are in descending order. Looks like the code has termites.
