Lyn is correct, engine is factory configured as compliant with Euro-5 or Euro-6.

From what I can find, if an engine starts life as E-6, it lives then dies as E-6.

You won't find it here.

This forum offers only opinions. Many of them wrong.

Look for a solution locally.

Boy, no kidding!

I scanned thru the articles of the link above; IIRC, the 9,000 PPM Sulfur is a reduction from the previous 13,000 PPM.

Give Volkswagen a call, I'm sure they provide you with a solution.

No conversion procedure from E6 to E5 is contained on your link.

These trucks are converted to run on higher sulfur content fuels in many parts of the world where low sulfur content fuels are not available...I'm reading between the lines as to what the OP actually wants....Why, what did you think he meant?

Euro-5 and Euro-6 does not necessarily indicate Diesel engines.

For clarification, please review this extremely confusing Wiki article:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_emission_standards

What does our OP really want to know? He is asking us to help him cheat the established vehicle pollution control standards that Mercedes has to follow. As you say, the vehicles may be operated outside of the usual and anticipated fuel supply stream, he is just trying to use the trucks without wrecking their engines. For that I don’t blame him one bit.

As usual, we could use a little bit of input from our original poster,

These stringent standards are in the EU only....Somebody could purchase a truck in the EU area and wish to use it elsewhere....Low sulfur fuels are usually only available in the EU....and the truck won't operate correctly on higher sulfur fuels....Mercedes understands this and makes conversion kits for this very purpose...So we're all just guessing until the OP clarifies...

‘Zackly.

For all we know, OP is using EU purchased and intended vehicles in subsaharan Africa, thus the fuel troubles. We just need a little bit more.

[edit] If OP simply parrots the original question, Lyn has the good answer so far: BrevQuot achieved.
