Piezoelectic Transducer

09/18/2007 2:10 AM

I want to manufacture piezoelectiric transducer used with an ultrasonic flaw detector to find out crack & hole from metal or for welding inspection. Can somebody help me with a design?

My first question is why you are set on using piezoelectric affect as the foundation of your device?

How much room have you got to work? Are you looking at pipe, rod, barrel, or the conducting path in a micro-circuit?

Perhaps, as a start, you could look at how rail defects are detected in the rail industry, but please, take a moment and tell us a little about your application and why you have chosen your approach.

Thanks

dear sir,

first i would like to thank you for the reply. we are manufacturer of ultrasonic probe [piezo electric transducer] & supplying to the manufacturer of ultrasonic flaw detector [Cathode Ray Tube BASE],

i will ans. yr first Que.. piezo transducer is a sensor & this machine is already design 20 years back now we cant change foundation

with with good quality sensor[ imported one] machine gives very good gain, sensitivity & Resolution right-now i am manuf. UT. sensor[ called probe ] but with my sensor response is not very good. Actually i am looking for good piezo crystal. Long back i use vernitron crystal. that was made in england. in res-enable price i got that from some agent but now that crystal is not available with him. I tried a lot to directly contact vernitron but cant contact with them might be spelling is wrong [if you know about this comp. please informed me.] yes my machine is using to detect rail defect

Buying ready UT.. probes are very costly & i want to find out economical + good quality solution thats why i want to ask you if pizzo.. quality is not so good even after that how can we make good UT. probe

Unless you have the design know how, and I doubt you would be asking here if you did, I would recommend that you go out and buy a good microphone with high frequency response in the area of interest. It will be much cheaper, it's already been developed and has known characteristics and is reliable. Don't re-invent the wheel if you don't need to. Now if what you are wanting to to is get into the transducer business then that's a different thing but if you want to build an instrument let someone who is already in the transducer business provide that piece of your project.

If you are just wanting to do a hobby thing from scratch I would recommend you look at building your own capacitance microphone and using a high DC voltage to charge it. This is common in high sensitivity applications plus it will be much easier to make and give better results. Piezo will not really be the best microphone for what you are trying to do.
