Can This Circuit Work Well?

serveral days ago , I was invited to check out a project. one part is shown as left.

input is a positive 12v and negtive 30v pulse of 20khz. coupler is 1:1 transformer. H resistor is 30ohm V resistor is 10K. power supply is 1000V,

1]what load resistor will be on the source of the transistor to get 20khz and 10A?

2]Can this driver drives the mos transistor very well?

For the moment let's ignore the 1000v supply...!

Quick guess...the real answer is

1. Build it and see.... Or ...

2. Spend ages analysing it...then build it and see !

My guess is that the diode will stop the FET switching OFF Quickly enough...E.G switch off is by the 10k resistor pulling the gate down, and the gate capacitance will stop this happening quick enough... so it will get V hot and burn out, might go BANG!

We also don't know what the mark space ratio is...?

If it was a 30 volt supply driving a 2 amp load you may have a chance. But at 1000v ! I will go and hide in one of my secret cat nests !!

Hi, cat, you are quite right.

that pic will be a rectifier existing because of inherent capacitor of mostr, so that mos cannt work undercondition of pluse. if the load is a transformer, the trnasformer and mostr are all burnt out.

just change the diode as left or add yet another zener to protect mostran, it can work normally.

Yes, this is much better... But I would worry about 1 kV...

oh, dont worry, the load is not a transformer but a resistance type load, like furnace wire etc. the mostransistor is of 1200v to 1600v device. at condition of sobbur protection
