Python has become ubiquitous. A lot of its functionality is a credit to the vision of its creator, Guido van Rossum. It appears the stress of the thankless job of maintaining that vision has gotten to him and he's stepping away from the central role he's held in Python's development since its creation.
Will this lead to every amateur programmer's favorite language becoming bloated and unmanageable over the next few decades? Tough to say, but his stepping down certainly represents an end to an era.
