Problem in Booting during Anti-Virus Update [Free-AVG 7.5 Grisoft

09/22/2007 11:11 PM

An error message was indicated by the AVG 7.5 during process of update & dumped an .err & .dmp file to my profile.

It restarted the windows, but never came back.

At 1st HDD was not detected by BIOS so booting did not progress.

After some 6/7 hrs D detected but "System not found" error.

After 2 days when booted it was OK.

Scanned by the AV & nothing found.

Running the system quite OK.

Even the update of the day it erred was installed properly.

Any idea?

regards

AVG has run fine for me previously. Maybe there is a compatibility problem with other security stuff you are running or the os (Vista reportedly doesn't like it). Look around CR4 and you will find mention of many alternatives. I don't know if 7.5 is the anti-spyware or anti-virus module of AVG. I think they do a root-kit module as well, but there's not much point exploring it until your current dilema is solved.

Regards.

It is Free AVG Anti-Virus. I peridically scan with root-kit and Lava soft Ad-aware.

One Giveawayoftheday's RegistryEasy to scan all the Reg for Malware is also scheduled for scan.

All are regularly up-dated.

Now it is running w/o any problem.

I have put it also to Grisoft's forum. Let me see what they say.

Thanks

You're welcome Haajee. Looking at some of these post in CR4 may turn up something useful as well.

I am running the same virus and ad-aware software as you and have had zero problems with any of it.

Gooday Haajee- I am using AVG 7.5 too- I found that the utter b-s-d would take over the computer, & my isp would drop out, while the new download was happening- I fixed the mongrel- as soon as the AVG LOGO comes up, hit X- then it asks "are you sure you want to cancel this update?"- hit yes!- when you are ready to go off(I am on dial-up) enable AVG update- it then downloads without ill effects.

Dear brother,

I read your question and come to know that your hardware detection in bios may be a problem this is due to weak connection of data cable. Hardware reset has occured.

Please check and firm your cable connection or possible replace your harddisk data cable. Also please reinstall your antivirus software or try replacing it with mcafee version 7 or 10.

May be this will reolve your problem.

Thanks and regards

I m also setisfied with your comment. there may be problem with connectivity.

u now problem has solved now we r discussing why the problem occured.so there is no need to replace the anti-virus. MC Afee is one of leader of anti virus markit but can't give the solution like AVG. It is realy powerfull free utility for virus
