How are you going to find the drivers of hardware components to work with NT? Probably need to write them your self?

Dear Friend,

Good Morning.

The system requirement is such that the outdated OS is to be loaded. I had assembleda P4 2.66GHZ machine but when I try to load the system, a blue sreen with some hexadecimal numbers and stating error in various drivers such ntdkrnl.... comes in front.

The system stops responding and we have to give a restart to start again.

Tried many attemps, but result is same every time.

Please help me out.

Waiting for an early reply.

You said you assembled the machine..., have you installed the software for the motherboard yet? You need to do that before you can load/install the OS.

Hope this helps.

Do you have the basic loudspeaker attached to the mainboard yet?

If not do it.

Do you then get Post errors?

If yes, fix the post errors......

Read the following as references:-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power-on_self-test

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_NT_Startup_Process

If no post error, I have not got a clue......but even without the mainboard drivers, you should be able to install the OS assuming CDROM, hard disk and memory are both good.

At least the post peeps will, if you are lucky, tell you which bit of hardware is giving problems!!

CDROM & Hard disk should both be installed as Masters and on different ports....floppy may be needed to load DOS and to use FDISK (partitioning) and Formatting of the hard disk before installing your OS.

Check BIOS through carefully and reset to manufacturers default as a starting position.

If the hard disk is far more modern than Main board, maybe that is a source of problems.....

Remember, NT needs two good 1.44 MB floppies and a floppy drive in a good condition to aid installation.....

Win2K is unsupported and as far as you are concerned, a far better bet in terms of getting it working, buy a cheap complete Win2K.....upwards of €20 in Europe on ebay....NT is far too old.....with too many bugs.

Win2K needs to have up to sp5 installed at least, sp6 was the final I believe, but what sp6 did I cannot remember.

I totally agree , Win2K is far better and simpler in terms of getting the machine to work. Have done it with SP5 on old P3 machines several times.

Although it is unsupported but updates (not sure when ends) are still being release on a regular basis.

This is practical solution

I am running WINDOWS 2000 Pro, SP4 on a Sony VIAO 2.4 GHZ with a problem. Also on a Desk Top with an AMD Athelon 1.8GHZ.

Unless you are setting up a Server, Win2K Pro should fit your needs for a STABLE OS.

If you do have a problem as you stated, it can hardly be a recommendation.....did you mean the opposite?
