Is it possible to produce VRLA battery using robust-transparent container?

09/27/2007 10:18 PM

Dear all,

I`m an power supply engineer for Telecommunication for BTS,BSC & MSC in GSM/CDMA operators. As my experience, the VRLA battery have the problem on its capacity due to some problem i.e. undercharge/overcharge,electrolyte inside the battery become dry, positive or negative plate become damage,crystallization/sulphation on plate inside, etc.

Regarding this problem,is it possible to make/produce VRLA battery using robust transparent material? What material used for this robust transparent container? What about the prices? so that we can physically see what`s the problem inside the battery.Even some parameters difficult to be measured such as electrolyte SpGr,but i think the transparent make it easy to make prediction analyze.

Since the Vented Lead Acid battery also use transparent (event not robust),so we can see pre-analyze when vented battery have some problem.

Can anyone from Electrical or chemical or another expert help?

Regards,

Imam Yulianto-Jakarta,Indonesia

I am not an expert but I have seen some lead plate batteries in clear housing used for emergency lighting in buildings and for the exit signs.
