  1. What an excellent question for an internet search engine to deal with.
  2. Apply for some and find out, because they are only <...available...> to successful applicants.

The type of jobs that pay very well and the kind of jobs that don't. You'll also find the type of job that will make you proud to be a fellow human being. There is also the types of job that crush your soul.

The American Society of Civil Engineers has a section of their website devoted to education and careers. This is an excellent place to start looking.

First, what is your current Civil-Engineering-related background, if any?...

Second, what types of Civil-Engineering-related work are you interested in doing?...

Ask yourself what kind of work would you choose to do if you were independently wealthy, and would pick any such work-type?...)

(Refer to Posts 1, 2, 4, and 5 for help in answering the questions asked herein...)

In my experience it is better to be a "practical" engineer. The degree, hopefully, gets you in the door and then you may have a chance to hone your skill set and show exactly what you can do.

There may, indeed, be relatively few Civil Engineers, but any legally constructed road, bridge, canal, tunnel, building, treatment plant, or other facility, required the efforts of at least one of us...

The apparent degree-of-civility is a personal opinion that is made differently by every other individual, engineer or not, according to whatever that other person's personal agenda happens to be, at that time...

I have heard the term "civil", not "Civil" used on many an occasion by many different people. I do not know why they do it, although there are probably some of us out there who are rude, boorish, etc., just like a lot of those that are not engineers. I guess its just a pun - intended.
