Drive Motor type with 2rpm and 1/2hp

09/30/2007 12:33 AM

Dear sir,

Please help on this problem.

I would to like to drive a shaft with Dia 50mm with ½ hp and it is about 2RPM and hold 40sec on every 90 Deg position and start for the next 90 Deg with 8 Sec speed.

In this regard please suggest me dirve type(elec. Motor/hydraulic/pneumatic). it should drive for continuous 1600 hrs without intruption.

Thanking U

Roshi.

How about a stepper motor. A bit expensive thou.

If there are no external space constraints, you might like to try a four position internal groove geneva. This allows for continuous motor output and intermittent actuation output. A lock mechanism may also be required to prevent the geneva from walking backwards.

Good luck

I don't think you'd need a lock if you used a geared motor to get the speed & the Geneva to get the intermittent output.

I would go with a servo motor and controller. You probably want an integrated gearbox to go down to 2 rpm.

Any AC motor with built in brake driving a reduction gearbox should give you the control you need along with a time controlled start/stop energizer/mag.

Also easy to do with a positive hydraulic selenoid over a hydraulic pump supplied motor... this would easily deal with torque start issue if there is a heavy start load and absolute positive stop if it is postion demanded.

I'd think an electric motor or gearmotor driving a worm gear reducer would work well. With an encoder on the motor, you'd have very precise position control (particularly because of the high gear ratio) and you can easily implement any acceleration profile, torque limiting, etc. via a VSD. If your application doesn't require precision, then simple on off control with relays and limit switches would work.

I think the easiest way to do this would be a stepper motor with a reduction gear drive. The stepper would be able to lock the drive in position without any external hardware. All you need is the drive ratio and feedback off the motor to stop the drive every 90 degrees. It might be more expensive but if this is a fixture then the savings in set up time might be worth the extra money for the motor.

A a timer circuit to turn on and off (8s ON, 40s OFF) a solid-state relay to power the motor and a worm gear to drive the shaft.

helloo

u can use stepper motor for that but it is expensive so i think dc motor (0.5 hp-1.25 amper) can give u waht u need because dc motor give u full load tork at 1 rpm so it will be good with u at 2 rpm witout any gears , so u need dc motor 2 amper, 170volt armature and 190volt for field + dc drive for the motor to drive the motor u can use any type of dc motors + very simple program with pic IC or by using simple plc to give u the duration of stop and work or u can use timer cicuit + u can use digital to analog voltage module to control the RPM with plc or u can use FIXED RISITANCE for giving u the wanted rpm

as u see u have many choices i can help for any quetiion just send me message(tamorak@yahoo.com)
