How to Select a Good Pigment and Solvent Dye Supplier?

11/19/2018 10:48 PM

Dear all,

Thank you for your time to read my question.

One of my friend, named Jack Queenzi, is going to open his own plastics factory. And as we know, we need different pigments and/or solvent dyes for plastic processes based on the clients' demands, but he is new to this field, so he turns to me and I just know a little about these, is there any one who can offer some ideas about how to select a good and/or reliable pigment and/or solvent dye supplier?

By the way, we have checked from Google and we got some famous companies such as CABOT, BASF, HUNSTMAN, XINGHUA PIGMENTS GROUP, DIC AND LANXESS, how can we identify the good suppliers from the bad ones?

Thank you again for your time and looking forward to your reply.

You either have to have a 'friend' who is already in the same business who is willing to share their experiences and is probably not willing to share because you are a competitor, or you can listen to each of their salespeople who will tell you that they are the best and the rest are not the best, or you just have to try one and see if you like them. Repeat until you are happy.

Maybe Angie's List will have ratings on them?

You don't "just start" a plastics factory with knowledge of the materials and processes involved.

And a "plastics factory" could define many different things.

I'm guessing it may be an injection molding shop. But, who knows.

If you want consistent color matches, paint the parts. Robotic painting is consistent and cost effective.

If you insist on doing this, select a supplier who will educate your friend's processors and operators in how to use their products.

This sounds like a recipe for disaster if nobody knows what they're doing.
