Guest,

By IPA, I presume that you are referring to isopropanol (as opposed to India Pale Ale!):

If so, a simple distillation apparatus should suffice - Isopropanol has a boiling point of 181 degrees F (82.7 degrees C).

Just watch out for open flames!

Ah! Question: does it form a constant-boiling mixture, please, like the ethanol-water mixture (to completely separate ethanol-water a third component is required; benzene is usually selected)?

PWSlack,

You are correct...

IPA does form a constant-boiling mixture (CBM) with water: Specifically, the azeotropic mixture consists of 87% (m/m) IPA and 13% (m/m) water.

But 87% IPA is better than nothing, (I suppose...)

Thanks for confirming this <bows respectfully>.

Guest: at this ratio of IPA to water the condensed liquid will have the same composition as the vapour, and futher separation of the two by distillation is impossible without adding a third component, like in the ethanol-water system. The component added will depend on the nature of the reuse of the IPA and the water, and of the economics of so doing.

What are you trying to recover, the IPA or the water? If it's the IPA, you'll need to do fractional distillation. If it's the water, then biotreatment to remove the IPA, followed by reprocessing of the effluent.
