Could any of you kind folks point me in the direction of some rules of thumb for HVAC duct manifold specs. Hate to seem stupid, but it came by-the-way on some spec work, and it's out of my specialty

I usually go to either a "SMACNA Duct Design Manual", Industrial Ventilation" by ACGIH, or "Fan Engineering" by Buffalo Forge. Is this a plenum, main duct, or return? What is volume and pressure in the system?

Eventually, one needs to realize that it is far less important to be the smartest person in the room than it is to sit next to that person and make friends.
They have a circular calculator for sizing duct known as Grill velocity finder
Part # 16-0107. this item is maybe US $ 10.00 . Order on line and they will mail you. You can size all HVAC duct s easily like a pro.
Also you can order Florite Air Velocity Meter "Florite MRF" 16-7001 (0-1000 fpm) or 16-7002 (dual Scale 0-3000 fpm, 0-35 mph) . with these the velocity finder is included.
