flanged pipe & fiittings

10/05/2007 2:08 AM

I am getting ready to change out a 8" flanged backflow preventor. I am wondering if all flanged 8" pipe has the same bolt pattern, or should I get extra bolts and nuts incase the new flange pattern is different. And if so, how will I make it match up to the old flange?

Check ANS/DIN Standard else why the fuss. Cutoff , remove & replace with a pair of brand new 8" Flange.

Agreed. Replace as whole if exact flange match is not to be made.

Waste water or industrial?

In waste water from personal experience Chinese knock offs don't match domestic N American products, and there are differences between vendors.

I think it is some nefarious plot.

This is the sad state of affairs in the industry. I have had to reject many, many simple "of the shelf items" the last 2 years or so, because they were pirated and in no way matched up. As stated, standards abound. Stay with a reliable supplier and check their websites for sizes.

Yes you are right. About 90% are pirated and they do not match unless you send them a template with the correct hole-hole centre to be matched and sent or stick to reputable supplier

For Starters:

and try ASME B16.5 for more information.

call the supplier and ask him for the hole size. CC to the one next to it and the one most directly across from it. Then compare it to yours if all 3 dimensions are a match then you should be ok. One way valves don't usually have a particular orientation. Better to check first then try to prepare for what is unknown (if possible). Or if your dealing with a desk clerk ask them to trace the end and fax it to you.
