Hi all,

I use Windows Vista and Skype has no incoming sound i.e. cannot make call test either, however, people say can hear me and video OK both ways. Tried sound adjustment and reinstall several times with no avail. Any further suggestion/s?

Is the sound working on other programs? It might be the other guy with the problem...if so, tell the other guy to check their skype sound settings...

...."To locate your Skype Audio settings, choose Tools→Options→Audio settings. To locate your Windows Sound settings, choose Start→Control Panel→Sound or Sounds and Audio Devices. ... Make sure that the sound devices match. If no one can hear you, you may have the wrong device selected in your Skype sound settings."...

As SE asked,: is the sound working in other programs?

If not, try using earphones. I've seen several cases where people forgot they were wearing the earphones and started to walk away. The extra jerk on the earphone plug bends the little tab in the socket that is supposed to remake contact to the speakers when the earphone is unplugged. The plug/socket still works fine for corded earphones, but not for the speakers.

Thanks for the help and suggestions but, this morning, the same happened on Facebook call service that for a while we were talking then suddenly their voices gone. The very same thing, people can here me but I cannot hear them.

This is an Inspiron 1525 with Vista installed on it, and had worked for a while but now the incomming soung has gone first on skype and now on FB also. The media player works OK, but has no response to its media buttons any more, does that mean anything?

It's possible your hard drive is failing...or the software is corrupted in some other way...try reinstalling your drivers...You may have inadvertently or even purposely, upgraded your program versions and the new version is not compatible with the Vista platform...in that case you need to follow the instructions in the link below to either upgrade to windows 7 or install the older drivers....

Sadly, I think you're dead on. I no wonder they gave it to me because they could never make sense out of what was happening with this machine...
