I am working on a physical science project for a competition. My science project is as stated: instead of working to improve the strength etc. of the building materials that are used to construct architectural structures against natural disasters, manufactures should improve the material's resistance to corrosive environmental, more specifically atmospheric, acids. My hypothesis is as stated: atmospheric acids, such as nitric and sulfuric acids, corrode structures gradually throughout a period of time, and then a natural disaster or any strong force comes along and is able to "destroy" the structure. So, it is not so much the strong force, but the acids that have corroded the structure over time and has made the structure weak and very susceptible to destruction by a stronger force. The stronger force could be considered the "the straw that broke the camels back" in this instance. I have my common building materials to conduct my experiment which are: iron, steel, concrete, and wood. But I need nitric, and sulfuric acid or a combination of the both in order to conduct my experiment. I asked my teacher where i could find these acids and he said that he could get them, but that i needed to figure out what concentrations I need. I do not know what concentrations I need or how to find out what concentrations I need.
