3 Phase Power Data Logger

03/06/2019 8:12 PM

Hi guys!

I would certainly be happy to see your recommendation. Probably you might have used a machine/control mountable power quality data logger that can stay there all the time. Some sort of diagnostics when or what time or plot trends an interruption occur. Without display is good as long as you can download the log trough a usb or pc interface.

Affordable ones would be the best too.

I have looked on fluke but its too expensive.

If there would be a product like this, O that could be a good and big sell to expect.

Well I guess it depends on what kind of information you need to log, what voltage and amperage, and what type of analytics you desire....?

Would this fit the bill...? ... and just $185. you can always just rent one if the need is temporary...

Rockwell / Allen Bradley E300 Smart OL relay can track (bot not log) energy data and has a built-in Ethernet port. You would then need to connect it to something capable of storing the data. That's the bigger part of the problem.

In general, you get what you pay for.

I've been using a Fluke 437 Series II because I sometimes have to deal with 400 Hz 3-phase power. At $10K(US), it's worth every penny to me because it logs long term low-bandwidth data and capture high-bandwidth transients when they occur.

It would cost a lot more for me to cobble together a bunch of 'inexpensive' stuff to do what this does right out of the box.

I've had very good results using a Dent Elite Pro XC. At around $1500 plus current transformers, it may be more than you wish to spend, but it has been a really good investment for our company. We rented one for a month to start, but quickly saw that we needed it for a lot longer than that, and bought the rental unit. It has paid for itself many times over in energy saved. We got ours with Rogowski coils that can measure up to 5000 Amps, and I purchased some much smaller clamp-on coils for currents under 50 Amps.

It sounds just like your description: It has no display, but easily downloads to a PC or Mac via USB or WiFi. It can measure up to four phases/lines at once, and is very flexible. Depending on settings, such as how many values to log and how frequently it logs readings, it can keep around a year's data on its memory.

Allen Bradley 1408-BC3A-ENT Power Monitor 1000 costs about $500 List Price $660 has the basic stuff, the Power Monitor 5000 has more power quality information, hook up with Ethernet, see link for info on their lines.

I have seen large installs of similar Siemens equipment, but all that equipment is very outdated now, serial link communication, the current model looks like the PAC3100. Ethernet comm for PAC3200, or 9410 Meter, perhaps easier to apply. These start at about $400, $1,000 for the 3200, up to $12,000 for the 9410
