Koken Barber Chair Question

03/12/2019 6:47 PM

Hello Everyone, new guy here with a question about a early century Koken Barber chair.

I have been doing a Poor Man's restoration on the chair (low budget!). I have completed all the work myself over a 10 year time period (that wasn't budget but adult ADHD!) Finally applied finish (Hammerite) to the previously plated parts. Left the porcelain original as I didn't know that it could be sanded/ground off and painted.

So, their is a question here-I have started the re-installation process and had a major problem trying to install the handle onto the horizontal shaft. It's a very tight fit. I can get the handle on the shaft but I don't believe it's on fully as I can't tighten the set screw. As I look down into the oil reservoir and see the piece that the shaft goes thru, I think that original installers must have some how compressed the spring that runs horizontal between the raising/lowering shaft.

The question is-Does anyone know how to correctly install the handle?

Thanks for any assistance.

Off hand I'd say it's possible you've assembled it in the wrong order...without any clue as to the model or year, or even an 'impossibly small', picture of the mechanism, it's hard to say...However there is a great deal of information on these chairs accumulated over the years, just type 'Koken barber chair' in the search window at the top of the page...

Yes. Many people know how to do it given the multitude of posts on this sort of topic within this forum.

Also, many people elsewhere know how to do it and a Google search (other internet search engines are available) will reveal a multitude of ways of contacting them.
