I thought we weren’t supposed to answer homework questions.

We don't as a rule...but we do help guide the person to a path that gives them the knowledge to answer the question themselves...

"stating all the components in the diagram", sounds like homework, or someone who has no business trying to wire sensors.

How is this different from asking you how to solve an algebra problem and asking you to show your work?

You would better serve these unknowing students/workers/opportunists by explaining to them how to search for their own solutions rather than playing a "let me Google that for you moderator."

You seem to be the one playing moderator....

Nope, just pointing out the obvious.

How many threads can you point to that you haven't rushed to Google your opinions of what you think the OP wants?

Shall we count? I'd wager that you respond to 90% of the questions asked, usually before anyone who may actually know the answer can.

Like I said, teach them to fish!

So what are you saying, that I answer the questions, but I don't know the answers?....Anyway I don't see that it makes any difference what order the posts arrive in...Feel free to correct any mistakes I make...I consider this a group effort...If you want to answer the questions first, go right ahead...A lot of times we aren't given enough information to get the answer the OP wants, but you have to start someplace, in many cases I like to jump right in and work towards the particular information the poster is seeking, I consider this a stimulating and productive approach...I also sometimes like to post interesting related information that makes the thread more educational and interesting...

I've been teaching people to so called fish for 30 years or more...A lot of times I know the answers but like to find it online to show people that they can find the information they seek on the web, they don't need me all the time....that's why I try to link all my answers to a ref on the WWW...You seem to think I don't know the answers without searching the web for them and that I should answer from memory, well as I have pointed out to you several times in the past, things change and your memory is not all that reliable...I might add that no matter how knowledgeable you think you are, there is always more to learn, and I pursue knowledge with much gusto...

I appreciate your efforts, but I don't see that I'm doing anything wrong...

I think it is wonderful that anyone would take the time out of their day to help another person learn how to do anything. Everyone who has knowledge can share their skill sets, although they are under no obligation to do so.

Yes. The sensor manufacturer can.

First, consult the FAQ and user manual of proximity sensor from the manufacturer's web site documentation.

Second, consult the FAQ and user manual of the device (PLC, computer I/O, interlock relay, etc.) you want to read the status of the proximity sensor from the manufacturer of the device's web site documentation.

Third, identify the environment the device, proximity sensor and any needed cabling will reside in.

Only once these three steps have been accomplished can component selection and diagram drawings be attempted.
