“Drop Forged” or “Chrome Vanadium”

10/10/2007 12:31 AM

If we purchase the tools, we fine "Drop Forged" or "Chrome Vanadium" punched on them. Can anyone explain about these terms and also which type of tool is better?

Go with the Chrome Vanadium. Oil quenching and better quality steel are likely at the heart of your question.

These are related, Drop Forging is the process used to shape the material.
Chrome Vanadium is the type of Steel used in the Manufacture of the tools.

"Chrome Vanadium" is better. I can get more beer-money for half-inched tools in Tilbury Market <splutter>.

"Drop Forged" is a process. "Chrome Vanadium" is a steel alloy. The two are commonly used together: if you Google for "drop forged chrome vanadium" you will find many tool sets using that process and that alloy together.
